CI team seizes medicines from HSIA

hazratCustoms Intelligence (CI) team seized Monday a huge quantity of medicines, deemed to be counterfeit, from a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The passenger is identified as Md Tayeb Ali of Nayapara, Purbodhala, Netrakona, and his passport number is BE 0787565. He came by a flight BG-087 from Cairo, Egypt and was intercepted by CI team after crossing customs green channel at 6:00 am.

The medicines used in treatment of cancer and pain relief are 5,000 pieces of Imuran, 2,000 pieces of Clomid, 975 pieces of Alkeran and nine pieces of Bivatracin.

The medicines don’t have any approval from the authorities concerned as per import policy order. About 105 grams of gold were also recovered from the person.

Meanwhile, the CI team also seized 12 cut pieces of four gold bars weighing 400 grams from a passenger at the same airport.

The gold bars valued at Tk 2.0 million were concealed inside the borders of jeans pants of the passenger identified as Md Sayem Ahmed of Shilimpur, Tongibari, Munshiganj and his passport No is BJ0404383.

He hid the gold pieces inside the two legs’ borders of his jeans pants. He was picked up from the customs hall area for checking and gold bars were recovered by cutting his pants’ borders. The passenger came by a flight RX783 from Kuala Lumpur.

Legal action against the two persons is underway.
