Dhaka Customs House has arrested a passenger and an employee of Biman Bangladesh Airlines for smuggling gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
Four gold bars were recovered at the time.
They were arrested on Tuesday.
Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner (Preventive) Mohammad Marufur Rahman said a passenger named Akhtar Hossain, who arrived on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-4050 from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, around 5am on Tuesday, was walking around suspiciously talking on his mobile phone.
At that time the preventive team of Dhaka Custom House challenged him.
Later, four gold bars were found near the passenger. Later, during the interrogation of the preventive team, it was learned that an employee of Biman Bangladesh Airlines named Omar Farooq came to receive the gold bars. Its authenticity is found in interrogation and verification of mobile phone calls.
Departmental and criminal cases have been filed against the passengers and flight attendants. They have been handed over to the police.
