Singapore Airlines urges PHL to improve airport

images (1)Philip Goh, SIA regional vice-president for Southeast Asia, said he sees a lot of potential in the country’s airline industry.

“Over the past two or three years, the Philippine market has been displaying very positive growth,” he said in a roundtable interview in Makati City on Wednesday.

However, the current airport infrastructure is seen as one of the constraints to growth. Mr. Goh noted the airport runways in the Philippines are too small to accommodate bigger aircraft.

“If the infrastructure is not at par with the market, then the market will not take off… If the infrastructure will keep its pace, then the growth [of the airline industry] will take off,” he said.

SIA currently operates 4-5 flights a week from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) but hopes to expand the number of flights to 7 days a week in order to cater to the growing market in the country.
