National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines started carrying hajj pilgrims from the Chittagong airport on Chittagong-Jeddah route from Friday. The first of Biman’s 11 dedicated hajj flights with 414 pilgrims left the airport at 9:30 pm. Director of Bangladesh Biman (marketing and sales) was present to bid farewell to the pilgrims in the airport. Another flight of Biman left Chittagong airport at the same night with 188 pilgrims towards Jeddah and it will continued till August 29 to carry the pilgrims from Chittagong with the remaining 10 dedicated Hajj flight this year. This year, some 101,758 hajj pilgrims from Bangladesh will visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to perform hajj. Among the total hajj pilgrims, a total of 5,200 are going under the government management and remaining 99,558 pilgrims are going under private management. Biman will carry a total of 51,000 Hajj pilgrims including 5,200 under government management, while private airliners will carry the remaining 45,800. Biman started its ‘Hajj Flight Programme 2016’ on August 4 and will continue till September 5 to serve the hajj pilgrims of the country.
