Former Biman MD terms media report fabricated

biman-kavinAviation News: Biman`s immediate past Managing Director (MD) and CEO Kevin John Steele strongly protested the interview report published by  a Bengali daily recently  which presented distorted information about Board of Directors and management of state owned airlines.

The Biman top official through a statement sent to the airlines authority denied that he did not made any allegation about the airline Board of Directors in such way he has presented.

The report mentioned that Mr Kevin has given an evaluation at an interview with the media regarding Biman management in the eve of his departure from Biman that “Eighty percent of senior management of Biman is dishonest, even inept while only 20 percent are found honest and efficient. However, 20 percent employees are guessed to involve with the corruption and rest of them are considerably good.”

The report also mentioned that “CBA is not problem for Biman, however its board of directors and senior management are the main reason for the trouble.”

Mr Kevin said that “The Daily Janakantha report is completely wrong, ill-advised, and I would like to distance myself from it completely.”

He mentioned that “I would also like to emphatically state that I have left Biman with very good relations with the Biman Board, who have been fully supportive of myself and my actions.”

“They are also 100 per cent focused on what is best for Biman, and I refute any allegations that the Board are in any way corrupt in any area, including in any aspect of GDS costs or Abacus. I have only the highest respect for their integrity,” the former Biman MD stated in his reaction.

He termed the report as malicious and horrific.
It is learnt that the Biman MD has given an interview with the Baishakhee Television before his departure where he did not mention such information about Biman management.

Mr Kevin in his resignation letter to the chairman Board of Directors Air Marshal Jamal Uddin Ahmed (Retd) with mention that “My contact states a minimum of 3 months notice,  but I understand it may take a little time to sort out a successor, especially with election due. I will therefore be given 4 months notice, which I am happy to work. If required I can help Biman find a suitable successor.”

The letter also states that “I would like to thank you (Chairman) personally for the help and support shown to me during my time here , I would not have been able to achieve half of what we have achieved without that support. I wish Biman all the very best , and will be doing whatever I can to help Biman in the future.”

“ The letter of Biman is written to Kavin after published his interview”

Dear Kevin,
I fervently hope and believe that this correspondence finds you hale and hearty. The reason for my writing to you this e-mail is to let you know about a report appearing in the Daily Janakantha by Mr. Azad Sulaiman which was but malicious and horrific. Since the report was entirely based on the interview that you gave to the said reporter on the eve of your departure and was published after you had left, we have every reason to believe that there was hardly any truth in it. We have watched your interview with the Baishakhee editor on television, which was but awesome and entertaining too. I am sending you both the vernacular and English translation of Mr. Azad’s report. Please mark the reportage of the story! Biman Board of Directors asks me to forward to you the translation of the report which has a mind to protest the act of Azad, initially in the form of a re-joinder/rebuttal. But before that the management thought it would be wise to have your say on it, which I believe, you would not hesitate to do without any delay. We look forward to hearing from you. And in the meantime, may I take the privilege to wish you and the family a happy re-union! Thank you very much and I wish you a healthy and prosperous post retirement life.
Kindest regards, Khan Musharraf, GM- PR, Biman

“The Reply of Kavin”
Hi There Musharraf,

Yes, I am settling in fine into the UK thank you, enjoying time with the family and resting.
I have got a similar email from Mr Zakaria, and I am horrified by the rubbish that he has written, it is completely made up. You can see my views on the Baishakhee program.

So yes, please issue a rejoinder, but please add a personal quote from myself. You can say:
‘The Daily Janakantha report is completely wrong, ill-advised, and I would like to distance myself from it completely. I would also like to emphatically state that I have left Biman with very good relations with the Biman Board, who have been fully supportive of myself and my actions. They are also 100% focused on what is best for Biman, and I refute any allegations that the Board are in any way corrupt in any area, including in any aspect of GDS costs or Abacus. I have only the highest respect for their integrity.’

Please add, amend or delete anything you wish from the above, to support the rejoinder. And once again my apologies for any problems this has caused.

Best Regards
Kevin
