No one injured after Delta Airlines flight slides off runway

No one injured after Delta Airlines flight slides off runway.

The President and CEO of the Saskatoon Airport Authority confirms that a Delta Airlines plane slid off the runway this morning.

The 74 passengers and 4 crew members on board were taken off the plane and were shuttled back to the terminal building. All are unhurt and are awaiting word on whether another plane is being brought in to resume their travel plans.

Stephen Maybury describes the plan as having lost directional control during taxiing operations in preparation for departure and as to where the plane ended up.

“I can only say in a very general sense at this point that I know that it did leave the surface,” Maybury said. “I understand that it was partial, but I can’t confirm that.”

Maybury said they do have a process for treating icy runways.

“There are a number of procedures from liquid to dry chemicals, and we have a department that’s focused on doing that, a 24/7 snow department that takes part in that.”

The runway on which the incident occurred was closed and the airport is in normal operations with the primary run-way open. The secondary runway is closed while Delta Airlines prepares to tow its plane back to the gate for inspection.
