Pakistan International Airlines cabin crew face suspension should they tip the scales at 30lbs over the limit. The sensational claims were revealed as part of a staff memo, leaked to Pakistani outlet ARY News. It suggested those “obese” employees who weighed in at 30lbs – or 15 kilos – over an as yet unspecified figure would be “grounded”. Consequently, it is said to suggest their jobs were under threat should they not take action in the first six months of 2019.
The memo read: “If any crew found above 30 lbs. from the desired weight after 31st Jan, 2019, will be grounded and referred to Air Crew Medical Center for medical evaluation & treatment until weight is reduced up to desired standard/BMI.
“Henceforth, weight check of all the cabin crew will be carried out at their base stations respectively and comprehensive data will be maintained for perusal of management.”
Meanwhile, it has been reported a total of 1,800 staff were subject to the shock warning.
It was sent by Aamir Bashi, the airline’s general manager of flight service.
PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar confirmed to Fox News the announcement was legitimate.
He added it would affect 100 cabin crew and said it was a “regular, routine matter.”
Mashed claimed it would ensure representatives were consequently ”slim, smart and fit.”
He continued: “”No one would like to have shabby crew in the aircraft.”
Pakistan International Airlines, often referred to by PIA, is the national flag carrier of Pakistan.
The carrier’s main hub is Karachi while Lahore and Islamabad serve as secondary hubs.
Recently, PIA took to Twitter to proudly celebrate the achievements of its cabin crew.
They uploaded a video of newly-qualified male and female members, wearing the official in-flight uniform.
Alongside, a caption put: “Our newly inducted Cabin Crew has completed the rigorous crew training and is now waiting to welcome you onboard!
“At a passing out ceremony held yesterday, 60 new crew members were certified to make your journey a more comfortable one.”
