Alaska Airlines reveals plans for striking SFO lounge.

A new Alaska Airlines Lounge is set to open on the rooftop of Terminal 2 at San Francisco International Airport in 2020, the carrier announced today. The lounge space is located in the reconstructed area that originally housed the base of the airport’s control tower.
The company said that the 8,500-square-foot lounge on the fourth floor will provide “the highest viewpoint of any other domestic lounge at SFO with stunning sights of the Bay and runway.”And after a hard hat tour of the lounge space on Tuesday, one of the clearest days of the year, I agree– the views are breathtaking. See my slideshow at the top of this post for a look inside and out!

To get to the lounge, members will make a hard left after passing through Terminal 2 security toward a new elevator bank for a lift to the top (fourth) floor. Since the space is still steel beams and concrete, Alex Judson, Alaska’s Manager, Alliances and Lounges, explained to me the airline’s vision for the lounge experience.
The elevator door will open to a dramatic view through floor to ceiling windows over the rooftop the the T2 boarding gates, across the ramp and runways, and over the Bay. Because the day was so clear, I took in a rare sight: snow capped peaks of the Diablo Range! See the slideshow at the top for a look.
Exiting the elevator and taking in the view, you’ll turn right and walk along a bank of windows to the Alaska Lounge entrance. After checking in at the front desk, you’ll enter a homey food and beverage area where a Starbucks-trained barista can whip up a latte or any other coffee or tea concoction you’d like– which means you can avoid the long coffee lines in the terminal below.
In the mornings, there will be a breakfast bar with steel-cut oatmeal, pancakes, greek yogurt, fresh fruit, fresh breads/pastries, and hard boiled eggs. At lunch there will be soups, salads and snacks along with rustic breads
