Why Airlines Are Losing Weight.

Last week, Simple Flying reported that the German carrier Lufthansa had given pilots an internal memo that suggested blocking off the last row of seats. On Tuesday I boarded a BA A320neo aircraft on which the rear two rows were empty and cabin crew instructed passengers to remain in their seats.

This follows an European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) flight directive issued on July 31 drawing attention to a ‘reduced efficiency of the angle of attack protection when the aeroplane is set in certain flight configurations and in combination with specific manoeuvres commanded by the flight crew’.
