Want a close-up view of your plane seat?

United Airlines is rolling out a feature that allows passengers to take a tour of the seats before reserving one as well as seeing other features of the plane.

The new virtual seat map will debut on the airline’s website Saturday for one type of plane, its plush new 50-seat CRJ 550, and will be expanded to other types of planes.

Linda Jojo, United’s executive vice president of technology and chief digital officer, said the main goal of the seat map is to “demystify” the different types of seats on a plane today.

United and other major airlines have been carving up their cabins into different seating sections aimed at travelers with different budgets and travel tastes. They call it segmentation.
