Paul Penn Ferthing, a former British naval officer, ran a pet sanctuary near Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
He rented a plane for five lakh dollars (Tk. 4 crore 26 lakh in Bangladeshi currency) to remove 200 dogs and cats from the war-torn country.
But the bombing outside Kabul airport on Thursday evening, local time, turned everything upside down.
The 52-year-old animal-loving military officer is currently living in Kabul.
