The airline operated its flights on domestic routes with pilots hired from elsewhere on April 24.
Its Assistant General Manager Kamrul Islam said the protesting pilots ended their strike and resumed work “unconditionally” from April 26 after several rounds of talks with the management.
“Our flights resumed on domestic and international routes from Saturday (April 25),” he said.
United’s pilots went on strike on April 22 demanding outstanding salaries that led to the grounding of all flights, according to a news agency.
Earlier in a statement on April 23 said, “United has been paying its officers and employees the previous month’s salary before the end of the next month. But suddenly on April 19, twelve Captains of the airline sent a signed e-mail to Director, Flight Operations wherein they said if the previous month’s salary and other allowances are not paid within April 30, they would not operate flights from May 1.”
“The management authority of the airline held discussions with the Captains for a suitable solution, but it is regrettable that the Captains abstained from operating flights from April 22, 2015 without any prior announcement pushing thousands of passengers into uncertainly.”
“The Captains had mentioned salaries and allowances, but only the salary for the month of March was outstanding, payment of which was under process. The hardline attitude of the Captains not only made passengers, employees and officers of the airline hostage but also the airline hostage.”
“Many of the international passengers became victims of visa complexities. Considering the plight of passengers, specially those with visa complexities, the airline started arrangements for them to fly on other airlines including Biman.”
