Two aircraft collide on runway in Jakarta during takeoff

two_580Two aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 operated by Batik Air one of Asia’s biggest airline operators Lion Air Group collided on the runway with a smaller plane in a Jakarta Airport. No causalities were reported. The passengers were evacuated safely from the plane using inflatable ramps.
The two planes were attempting to take off from the Halim Perdanakusuma airport. The Batik Air, a Boeing 737-800 operated aircraft was taking off when its wing clipped the tail of a smaller plane being towed off the runway.
The airport mostly serves domestic flights and the transport minister issued a statement saying that the airport will be closed until further notice.
Budget carriers in Indonesia have grown adding to the country’s travel boom. However there is a lot to be done with the infrastructure. The biggest economy of South East Asia is struggling to keep pace with its still to develop facilities. Indonesia is yet to get over the Air Asia crash in 2014 where 162 passengers met their death in Java Sea.
