Etihad Airways has denied a report in Times of Malta linking it with a possible equity stake investment in Air Malta.
On Wednesday, Times of Malta reported that the government had wrapped up a deal with Etihad for the purchase of a stake in Malta’s national carrier.
The news has already been denied by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who has said that the government is still seeking a strategic partner for Air Malta.
Etihad Airways, however, has also strongly denied the report, which first surfaced in November last year.
According to the arabianbusiness.com website, Etihad has also said that there is no imminent deal with the Maltese government.
“Latest reports in the Maltese media stating that a stake of Air Malta will be sold by the Maltese government to Etihad Airways, are categorically untrue,” said an Etihad Airways spokesperson.
“Etihad Airways reiterates there is no foundation, nor substance, in such stories that have been circulating for several months.”
