Iran will pay 1,50,000 USD to the families of each of the 176 passengers killed in the downing of a passenger plane by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
The Boeing 737 of Ukraine International Airlines was hit by two missiles shortly after taking off from Tehran in January.
Iran initially denied responsibility, but later acknowledged that it had “inadvertently” downed the UIA flight.
The BBC reports that the compensation will be paid on Thursday.
Earlier, Ukraine called for compensation for the plane crash and for those involved to be brought to justice.
The dead included 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, nine crew members, four Afghans, four British and three German nationals.
