The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department has seized about 8 kg of gold worth Tk 5 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Muhammad Mubinul Kabir confirmed the matter on Friday.
He said the information about the smuggling of gold came to the customs detectives.
Due to which the detectives took position at different points of the airport.
Based on the information received, a search was conducted on the BG 028 flight of Bangladesh Biman from Abu Dhabi at around 10:20 am.
Under the four seats of that flight, 8 gold bars were found hidden in a fancy way. Its total weight is 7 kg 888 grams.
The estimated market value of the seized gold is about Tk 4 crore 73 lakh 28 thousand.
