Malaysia launches ISC for Bangladeshi migrants

ISCAviation News: The government of Malaysia on April 1 launched the Immigration Security Clearance (ISC) for Bangladeshi migrants looking to work in Malaysia. ISC is the key security step to be implemented on migrant workers before any work application process such as application for Visa/Calling Visa can begin.

ISC services in Dhaka are available from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs from Sunday to Thursday. VFS Global’s nationwide locations and experience together with S5 Biotech’s expertise in implementing such initiatives will help speed up application process and also bring convenience to the migrant workers.

The ISC was launched on April 1 with the inking of an agreement between VFS Global and S5 Biotech in presence of Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi, Minister of Home Affairs, Malaysia, the Deputy Chief Secretary of Home Affairs and the Director General of Immigration of Malaysia. This enables the availability of service on a nationwide scale through VFS Global’s extensive presence in various cities in Bangladesh, with Dhaka being the first location to offer this service.

Murali Raghavan, Regional CEO, VFS Global and Sharifa Ommun Nafis, Director, S5 signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides. Vishal Jairath, Regional Head South Asia, VFS Global and Dato Seri Johann Young, CEO, S5 were present on the occasion.

Dato’ Seri Dr. Zahid said, “The biometric-based ISC is the first security check that must be carried out by workers before any work application process can begin.”

“Malaysian government believes the ISC system will enhance national security by preventing unwanted individuals from entering the country. This initiative by Malaysia is to protect migrant workers from manipulation and abuse by unscrupulous agents and human traffickers. Malaysia is very serious and fully committed in its fight against human trafficking and smuggling,” he said.

ISC is being implemented in all source countries and the roll out in Bangladesh is deemed important as the country is one of the highest foreign workforce contributors to Malaysia. ISC acts as the first level of security measure by verifying the identity and status of migrants/candidates against its security database.

ISC’s preclearance process significantly reduces the risk of detainment and deportation of workers after arriving in Malaysia.
