Aircraft engine disappeared from Shahjalal Airport

The engine of a United Airways plane has gone missing in the runway apron area behind the export cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital, evading the eyes of 21 security agencies.

The airport authorities do not know whether the engine of the abandoned plane of the private airline company has been stolen or someone has taken it off for some other purpose. The missing engine is estimated to cost around Tk 10 crore, sources said.

Shahjalal Airport’s Export Cargo Village, Close Circuit Circuit (CVTV) footage stored at the respective branches or points of departure did not reveal the whereabouts of the missing engine.

Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BACA), the airport’s regulatory body, does not want anyone to take responsibility.
